But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah,
because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a
son, and you shall name him John. And you will have joy and gladness, and
many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the
Lord. He will drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will be filled
with the holy Spirit even from his mother' womb, and he will turn many of the
children of Israel to the Lord their God." (Lk 1:13-15)
The proposal was acceptable to the whole community, so they
chose Stephen, a man filled with faith and the holy Spirit, also Philip,
Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, a convert to
Judaism. (Acts 6:5)
"You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart
and ears, you always oppose the holy Spirit; you are just like your
ancestors." [Stephen is speaking] .... When they heard this, they were
infuriated, and they ground their teeth at him. But he, filled with the
holy Spirit, looked up intently to heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus
standing at the right hand of God. (Acts 7:51, 54-55)
for he [Barnabas] was a good man, filled with the holy Spirit and
faith. (Acts 11:24)
