The Trinity

We have learned that God is the greatest love.  Imagine once again the time when only God exists.  We stated that at this time, God loves Gods own self, because there is nothing else to love.  However, love of self is not the greatest kind of love.  It is greater to love another than it is to love yourself.  Therefore, there must always be another person whom God loves.  But, in the beginning, there is only one God, and there is no not God.  How do we resolve this?  There are two persons (Lover and Beloved), but they are both God.  They have separate thoughts, but the same will.  They have separate duties, but the same essence.  However, realize also that if two persons love each other at the exclusion of all else, that is not the greatest love.  A greater love is one that includes another (Consummation or Completion) to share in that love.  Therefore, the minimum number of persons for the greatest possible love is three.  At this point, the love is completed, so no more than three persons (Lover, Beloved, and Consummation) are necessary.  This God: three persons, one essence, is referred to as the Trinity.  At this point, only trinitarian theism (Christianity) remains as a possible philosophical description of God.

We have reached the end of my description of God, using only philosophy and knowledge about the physical world.  This is not a complete description of the infinite God, which is infinitely impossible for finite beings.  However, I have gotten much further that I originally believed possible, and I hope that it has been of value to you as well.  A much deeper understanding of God is possible, because God has revealed much of God's self to us.  It is now time to learn about God, using the New Testament.
